International Veterinarians Are Eager for Oquendo Center Training
Professionals Worldwide Relish the Location, Facility, and Hands-on Opportunities
According to Dr. Don Waldron, Chief Veterinary Medical Officer, “We’ve been fortunate and honored at the Oquendo Center to welcome veterinarians from six continents as participants in our practical, hands-on clinical courses. To date our largest number of international guests has come from Canada and Japan. For the past 5 years, we have presented three surgical courses each year to groups of Japanese veterinarians who choose Oquendo Center to gain hands-on experience in the most up-to-date procedures for treating common surgical problems of companion animals.”
Faculty and Surroundings Encourage Learning … Language No Obstacle
Instructors are selected for their enthusiasm and known expertise, and find the carefully planned wet lab setups truly conducive to effective teaching. Skilled translation is automatically integrated into courses attractive to registrants who speak no or limited English. Before the Oquendo Center opened in 2009, hands-on labs were often conducted in hotels or other multifunctional spaces that were not constructed for medical training purposes. With the availability of the Oquendo Center came specialty courses presented in rooms designed and equipped specifically to meet each lab’s objectives and fit its physical requirements.
Fun City and Fabulous Venue Double the Attraction
All of the Oquendo Center pluses certainly attract U.S. veterinarians, but international veterinarians have discovered in the Oquendo Center an instructional venue that is simply impossible to find in many of their homelands. For example, regulations in Japan limit availability of animal specimens and restrict use of cadavers for teaching.
Japanese veterinarians who register for Oquendo Center labs are delighted by the convenience of travel to Las Vegas and the proximity of quality, inexpensive hotels on arrival. As a matter of fact many have expressed their preference for going to a distant country to complete advanced training. They are grateful for the immediate feedback and candid evaluation provided on-site at the Oquendo Center as well as the opportunities for open discussion, readily facilitated by a translator. Many also enjoy the after-hours vibrancy of Las Vegas as a break from the intensity of rigorous laboratory training.
Easy Access and Simple Registration Attract Participants and Sponsors
Oquendo Center’s year-round courses have become increasingly popular with veterinarians all over the United States and beyond, as every year more non-U.S. veterinarians discover the advantages of concentrated hands-on instruction at a highly sophisticated scientific site. Smiling, Dr. Don Waldron adds, “The enthusiasm of our foreign guests for learning at the Oquendo Center is contagious.”View Listing of CoursesClick here to view a list of 2014 year-round CE courses.
