Petplan, Pet Insurance honored a trio of outstanding veterinary professionals at the 2013 Petplan Veterinary Excellence Awards. The awards dinner, held at Charlie Palmer Steak at the Four Seasons-Las Vegas, recognized the accomplishments of the 2013 Veterinarian of the Year, Dr. Natalie Marks; 2013 Practice Manager of the Year, Suzanne Cross; and 2013 Veterinary Technician of the Year, Kim Franck. The winners stood out to the panel of nine judges, including WVC’s CEO Dr. Guy Pidgeon, for their commitment to excellence in veterinary medicine from the more than 2,200 nominations received by Petplan in the search for America’s favorite veterinary professionals.
Meet the 2013 Recipients
2013 Veterinarian of the Year, Dr. Natalie Marks, Blum Animal Hospital, Chicago, IL
A graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Dr. Marks has held leadership roles in the AVMA, the Illinois State VMA, and Chicago VMA, and was recently awarded the ISVMA Erwin Small First Decade Award.
Blum Animal Hospital, an award-winning clinic, is a full-service veterinary facility with eight veterinarians, nine veterinary technicians and one full-time practice manager/hospital administrator, offering a range of services from general wellness exams to behavioral counseling, pain management, surgery, and much more.
2013 Practice Manager of the Year, Suzanne Cross, Brighton-Eggert Animal Clinic, Tonawanda, NY
With 17 years of experience in the veterinary industry, Suzanne Cross has worked her way up from a kennel assistant to a receptionist, to a Licensed Veterinary Technician, and finally to Practice Manager. Cross, who graduated from Medaille College and plans to work toward certification as a Veterinary Practice Manager, focuses on improving customer service, maintaining a high standard of care, and growing the hospital’s culture.
At Brighton-Eggert, a large team of 12 doctors, eight vet techs, 15 veterinary assistants, and 15 receptionists work together to offer high quality animal care which includes a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories.
2013 Veterinary Technician of the Year, Kim Franck, Adamstown Veterinary Hospital, Denver, PA
Certified Veterinary Technologist, Kim Franck has spent six and a half years as a surgical and dental technician at Adamstown Veterinary Hospital. Franck has assisted in an array of procedures, including soft-tissue surgery, CCL stabilization, and surgical dental extractions and restorations. She takes a vital role in her clinic, promoting client communication and education while remaining actively involved in patient care and diagnostics.
Adamstown Veterinary Hospital is one of the leading animal hospitals in Berks, Lebanon and Lancaster counties in Pennsylvania. The Adamstown team of four full-time veterinarians and more than ten support staff provide an extensive list of services for dogs, cats, and exotic pets, including: laser therapy, digital radiology surgery, digital dental radiology, pain management, soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries, wellness and preventative pet care.
An annual event, the 2014 Petplan Veterinary Excellence Award call for nominations will open on September 16, 2013. The 2014 gala celebration, which will be held in tandem with the 2014 Western Veterinary Conference, will be attended by some of the foremost leaders of the veterinary community.
